“It Was A Good Day”

"Therefore... be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your Labor is not in vain.”  (1Corinthians 15:58)                       Yes, our Invite-A-Friend Sunday was a good day. I believe Paul Ross said we had 68 at the pancake breakfast and 73 came to worship God that morning. Last week we had 58 in attendance. Not that it’s really about numbers but rather about doing the work of the Lord. And the work of the Lord is to make disciples. But before we can make disciples, we have to reach out to those would-be disciples.

Yesterday (Sunday, 9-14-08) someone lamented.“no one I invited came.” If you remember my sermon from the Sunday before, Isaid, “Not everyone we invite will come... yet our part in the process is tocontinue to seek persons within our circle of influence and invite them.” Iwent on to say, “People often think that by inviting someone...that they areonly successful if the person says they will come. This is false. Our success;our faithfulness comes from simply extending the invitation.”

In the 1 Corinthians passage above Paul says to“alwaysbe abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lordyour labor is not in vain.” How can Paul be so sure?  How can we know that any of our work forthe Lord isn’t in vain? By knowing that we have been faithful to Jesus’ callingto reach out to our sisters and brothers who don’t belong to a church; to “beHis witnesses” (Acts 1:8) whenever opportunity arises; and most of all to livea life that let’s the unchurched and the de-churched see Christ in us. Then oursuccess which is better understood as faithfulness is assured.

Thanks to all who invited, those who helped setup, helped promote, cooked, played and sang, brought toys and canned goods tothe breakfast. And thanks for all who assisted in the worship service. But mostof all, thanks to all who came, for it was a good and godly day.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

                                                   In Christian love and service,

                                                                             BroJoe
